Conserving buildings
of character.
We provide specialist heritage advice to conserve and enhance historic buildings, combining technical expertise with a sensitive, pragmatic approach.
Get in touchWe work with property owners, institutions and developers to care for historic buildings, helping to preserve their significance while sensitively adapting them for modern use. Our heritage expertise combines a deep understanding of traditional construction methods and materials with practical, cost-effective advice.
We provide specialist heritage advice to owners of listed buildings and those located in Conservation Areas, for the preparation of listed building consent and planning permission applications.
This involves pre-application planning support, liaison with Conservation Officers from the Local Planning Authorities, and the preparation of heritage statements including assessments of significance and impact assessments.
We undertake specialist inspections to analyse and identify the cause of building defects affecting traditional buildings, including damp and timber defects.
We recommend appropriate repair techniques with a pragmatic approach, using suitable materials.
We carry out historic building recording exercises ranging from Level 1 (photographs and notes) to Level 4 (comprehensive analytical record), in line with Historic England guidance, often specified as a requirement for obtaining listed building consent.
Timely intervention and regular maintenance are key to sustaining any traditional building.
Following careful assessment, we specify repairs using traditional materials and appropriate conservation techniques.
We are approved to carry out church inspections for the Dioceses of St Albans, Oxford and Winchester, and currently look after 13 churches across the Dioceses.
We undertake five-yearly quinquennial inspections on a variety of Grade I, Grade II* and Grade II churches. In our role as appointed inspector, we also advise on specialist repairs and maintenance to the church fabric.

We take the time to understand the history, significance and fabric of each building, combining technical knowledge with a thoughtful, pragmatic approach. We aim to protect what makes historic buildings special, while helping them to remain practical, usable and relevant for the years ahead.
